When I Awake
As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. Psalm 17:15
At the end of his prayer (here in Psalms 17) David makes an incredible statement. One that I believe is the crux of Christianity.
“I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.”
David understood that he was on a journey with God.
David’s desire was to one day awaken in the likeness of the living God. Therefore, David sought after an intimate relationship with Him. David sought oneness and he fully understood that since God did not (and would not) change – he himself would have to.
I don’t believe that any professing Christian will ever truly be satisfied until the day that they awaken to realize that they are on a journey for change; a journey to be conformed to the image and likeness of God.
When God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness,” He knew our beginning from the end. That you and I (according to the Scriptures) were predestined; predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ.
Whether we are just beginning our journey or have been in this process for a great many years. As long as Christ is still our Hope, one day we too shall be satisfied when we awaken into His image and likeness.
Until then, let us keep pressing in for more.
