One of the aspects of 2009 will be for us to focus on the light.

This then is the message, which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5 (Emphasis mine)

It is very important that we realize that God is light and in Him in no darkness at all. There simply is no darkness in Him. Jesus came as the light of the world to show us the way out of darkness.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12 (Emphasis mine)

Light will always dispel the darkness. Have you ever lit a candle and turned off all the lights? It is a powerful demonstration that light can shine ever brightly in the midst of darkness.

Even a casual observer can tell that things are getting darker in the world in which we live. However I have good news for you. The light is coming.

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Isa 60:1-2

The differences between light and darkness are becoming increasingly clearer.

One of the warnings of Jesus was that certain individuals would love the darkness far more than they loved the light.

Why?

Because their own deeds are evil.

Those who love the light are ever willing to present themselves before the LORD of light. Much like a sunflower they live and move in the light.

For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. John 3:21-22 (Emphasis mine)

As Christians we are all called to walk in the light even as He is the light. As we do our path will become increasingly clearer.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Prov 4:18

In the coming weeks and into next year, let’s focus on the light. Remember, Jesus is the true light of the world. It is through having an intimate relationship with Him that we can shine as lights in this world. Arise and shine.
